Readers need writers. Writers need readers. It's a mutual admiration society when it's good. It's an inflamed saddle sore when it ain't.
Learn to read and the world is open to you. Whether it is understanding organic chemistry, sophistry, maps or algebra reading is the essential tool in your saddlebag. Better yet, understanding the origins of words is like understanding the arcane symbols of map and compass headings. Understanding the etymology of words is critical because - bless 'em - there are plenty of writers who use words incorrectly. Often to no consequence. But just as often on purpose to their own designs. Think politics, banking, law and a couple of other things we wrestle with every day and you'll get the point.
You can only find your way through Life if you can make sense of the signs all around you. Cutting sign was a life-saving talent in the Old West. Reading is exactly like cutting sign. You have to earn the skills of reading and comprehension and once you do almost anything can open to your inquiring mind.
Price River Publishing is a new imprint as of 2012. We don't really have a business goal, per se. Price River started as an imprint to have a place to corral our own books. We write for ourselves, not a market niche and people like what we offer. That sparked an idea that other writers might want to join our little posse. Some day we may do that. But for now it's enough to see our own work published.
Put your boots up on the hitching rail. Push your hat back just so and crack a book. All that work and responsibility will still be there when you get back. The opportunity to read something good might not. Grab it while you can.
